Coaching – the new buzz word for training in 2012!

Pick up any business related magazine and inside you will find an article on Training and Development which talks about Coaching!

Coaching seems to be the new buzz word for the year 2012. As businesses and organisations of all shapes and sizes try to find ways of cutting back on Training,(both in house and out sourced training requirements), Coaching is seen to be one of the answers.

So is Coaching the answer?

Coaching can definitely help to improve employee and business performance at all levels when conducted properly. Coaching can be used at all levels of the business to help bring out the potential of all staff, deal immediately with business related issues and enable long term development.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a way of improving the performance of others by encouraging learning and development through individuals and teams to achieve a defined goal.

What is the Coaching process?

The Coaching process enables individuals and the business to agree what the coaching goals are, discuss the current situation, explore options and then commit to a course of action. The Coachee then implements all agreed actions with the support of a Coach. The idea behind this process is to enhance performance for the individual employee and the business. The last stage is for the Coachee and Coach to understand what has been learnt and build on this knowledge.

How do I begin to Coach?

Coaching is not training, coaching is a process and can be applied anywhere, where individuals need: help, support, problem solving advice, career development or motivation.

Coaching uses an individual’s skills and abilities to help others progress and to seek new opportunities. Coaching can be on an individual basis or as a team.

Coaching employees needs careful thought and should be set up correctly to be successful. It should be remembered that Coaching in no way should replace Training in any organisation.
